A THOUGHT ABOUT IDEAS BY MORGAN LANGHAMMER

We love to let ideas exist in our heads. There is a comfort in knowing that you can keep them safe and warm. You get to love them, and hold them, and never let them grow. So long as an idea exists in your head it cannot fail, it cannot be criticized. So long as an idea does not leave, it cannot be a bad one. It exists in limbo.

Sharing an idea is scary. What if they don’t like it? What if you get laughed at? What if as soon as you say it out loud you realize it may be the worst idea on the entire planet in the history of mankind?

While very likely not the worst idea on the entire planet in the history of mankind, you won’t know until you put it out there. You don’t know a single thing about your idea until you take it from its safe and warm home and do to it what any loving host will do to you once you’ve overstayed your welcome: Kick it to the curb.

Harsh, right? Maybe a little bit. But here is the beautiful thing about sharing ideas: they come back better than they left. Maybe a bit dinged up, some wear and tear around the edges, but better for it.

So go, and share an idea. Even if it is the literal worst idea on the entire planet in the history of mankind, it will be better for being shared.
