YOUR LIFE DOESN’T MATTER BY OLIVIA KEEFER

But neither does mine.

I have donated over 6 feet of hair since I was 4 years old. I grow it to chop it in one cut. The last time I chopped it was May 2016.

“But Olivia, EVERY girl wants long, blond hair. Aren’t you scared it’ll look bad short? I would kill to have your hair. Boys like that.” Wait, what? Let’s pass over that last statement (though I heard it too often). Ya know what? Who cares if my hair looks bad short? If every girl wants long blond hair, every girl deserves to have it, especially if medicine stops her hair growth.

I don’t need my hair, but someone else in this world does. How many things do you have that you don’t really need? What do you take for granted? How much would you be willing to part with in one swift motion that you won’t have an immediate replacement for? What could you part with that someone else needs?

Your life doesn’t matter. Neither does mine. Our lives matter together. Creativity is working together, for each other. It is seeing what someone else needs, and being willing to provide that. What skills and resources do you have to share? The world needs it.
