UNCAGING CREATIVITY WITH COURAGE BY WILL KULIS

UNCAGING CREATIVITY WITH COURAGE BY WILL KULIS

In the movie “We Bought a Zoo” starring Matt Damon, is where I believe the best line ever spoken in film came from, and one that I don’t think anyone ever really noticed. The line is:

“You know, sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage. Just, literally, 20 seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it”

Since the moment I heard that line, I have kept it with me and recited it to myself almost daily. What makes it so profound is the simplicity of it, only 20 seconds of action, but it happens at moments that all action seems impossible.

It’s that moment in a group project that the lightbulb goes off, but the idea is so far out there you don’t know how to bring it back to reality.

It’s that moment when you are standing in front of a panel of judges and your waiting for your body to produce words, but they are caught in your throat

It’s that moment when you realize what you have created is so innovative, so bold, you will have to fight to keep it from being taken from you.

Creativity is a game of risk, and anyone who is creative knows that to win big, you have to have some big failures. The Creatives’ best ally is their courage to keep bringing new ideas, and it only take 20 seconds.
