OUTSOURCING YOUR MEMORY BY TURNER ROLLINS

OUTSOURCING YOUR MEMORY BY TURNER ROLLINS

Two years ago I shoved a notebook in my back pocket and since then I haven’t left home without it. If you’re reading this blog, you probably have more ideas than you have time and mental bandwidth for. A notebook is how I make sure my ideas, insights, and wonderings aren’t lost to my fickle memory.

A notebook is outsourcing your memory and mind to the physical world.

There are tons of methods for setting up and choosing a notebook. This is not that kind of blog. Take this blog as one part entertainment, one part a peek into my alleged mind, and one part inspiration to start carrying a notebook everywhere.

Here are some things I definitely would’ve forgotten if I didn’t carry a notebook:

  • Reminder: Say “Exactamundo” more

  • Everyone is an expert on their own experience

  • Vaping would stop being a problem if we started calling people who vape “vapists”

  • Passion = (Curiosity + Engagement) * Time

  • Maroon is navy red

  • Business idea: Like ear plugs... but for your nose!

  • “If you want to build a ship you don’t drum up people, divide up the work and give orders. Instead teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea” - Antoine De Saint Exupéry

A notebook is a mirror for the self and a net for ideas. If you want to become more aware of who you are as a creative — if you want to preserve your unique thoughts — then start carrying a notebook with you everywhere. START TODAY
