THERE ARE SUCH THINGS AS STUPID QUESTIONS BY TOM GARVEY
“There is no such thing as a stupid question.” This is a fantastic lie meant to comfort those who do not push their creative boundaries to produce great questions. At no point should someone be afraid to ask a question, in that reality, progress is halted, and getting to the source of a problem doesn’t happen. Before asking a question push yourself to analyze “Is this a good question?” What makes a good question is an internal fight to be creative. Whether in school or the professional world it should be a goal to have those around you believe what you say and do is impactful. The best questions are ones that come from an exhaustive personal analysis before being posed to others. When a question comes up the first step should be to use all the tools around you to answer it yourself. Ask yourself “how much work have I put into this before I pose it to my professor or boss?” Only when you have pushed yourself to your creative limits in answering the question yourself will you know that what you say next will be something impactful on your audience. The worst questions are ones that are asked to let someone else do the work of figuring it out for you.
