Someone (and 100 other twitter accounts) once said, “In this world you either crank that soulja boy, or it cranks you.”

Do you remember the last time your dad put you on his shoulders?

Everyday each and every one of us are experiencing life and death.

You experience death when doing something for the last time, without even realizing it.

The death of being on the top of the world at six-years-old, also known as your dad’s shoulders.

Perhaps even the death of ever listening to “Crank That” by Soulja Boy ever again.

My dad has been experiencing small deaths the past two years while fighting ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

He has mourned the death of being able to drive, the death of walking. He has mourned going to numerous restaurants with stairs and no ramp.

Do not let these small deaths win, meaningful or not. For every death, find a new life.

Look for new ways that spark joy and creativity in your everyday life.

We find a new way of doing things, such as always keeping a foldable ramp in the trunk of the car.

Crank that soulja boy as long as you are able. Take the risks before you can’t.

What deaths have you experienced? How have you created new life from it? Is it easy for you to take risks? What risks have you taken recently? Did you do try something new today?
