ENGINEERING OUTSIDE THE BOX BY KATIE TRIMBLE
“I’m not creative.” I told myself this my entire life. I thought creativity was being able to doodle pretty pictures and decorate a room. Wrong. Creativity is found everywhere.
My creativity is driven by putting myself in positions I have never been in. This forces me to accept ambiguity and learn to think on my feet.
Going down the engineer career path, I thought most things are pretty black or white. The chemical reaction produces the desired product or it does not. The machine works or it does not. Wrong again. There is an enormous grey area where 97 other things could happen. This is where engineering steps outside the box.
